Wanderlust- Gouache on gelli plate

Here is some work I have been doing for
Wanderlust 2018. This is for a class by Jamie Avery called Nostalgic Summer. It's gelli plate printing using gouache, which is a new technique for me. The subject is "Meadows", and I used a very
small gelli plate which was 3" square.

Time for Snow Dyeing

Last week we had snow in the UK, and I decided to make the most
of it and do some snow dyeing.  I had been interested to read about this process in Canada and
the USA where the snow is more plentiful and long lasting, and had it on my to do
list for a snow day. I was pleased to find that I had kept all the equipment together ready for snow, so it was quick and easy to do.
I used Procion dyes and a selection of natural fabrics, soaked first in washing soda. It is simply a question of putting the fabric at the base of a container, packing snow on top and sprinkling on the dye. As the snow melts the dyes drip into the fabric, giving a soft effect. I used a mixture of colours in each container, but single colours would work well too. Now I have some pretty fabrics to use in future projects!

Caversham Arts Trail 2018

I am busy preparing for the Caversham Arts Trail at the moment. I have been printing on fabric using a gelli plate. It's great fun, but it's rather addictive! I have been making a rainbow of colours.

Wanderlust Week 8

 Wanderlust 2018
 Lesson by Kasia Avery
 Time Travels and Explorations

For this lesson I made a collage . The figure I used is Christine
de Pisan (1364-1430) a French author, who wrote about
women's rights in the fifteenth century. I have used a piece
of her handwriting too.

Wanderlust Week 7

Here is  my finished collage for the Wanderlust lesson by Carolyn Dube, "If these walls could talk"  I used collage, stencils and gelatos for my page. I liked Carolyn's video lesson and the gelatos technique was fun.

Making a spiral bound journal

This week I have been continuing my adventures with book making under the expert tuition of Janina Maher. We made ringbinder journals, using a machine to make the holes and put in the spirals. I have learned a lot about the importance of accurate cutting of the paper! The paper I used for the cover is handmade from Thailand, and the inside is kraft paper.

Woodblocks from India, a present from my husband's trip to Mombai.
They are hand carved and he bought them in a market. I can't wait to try
them! They will be put to good use.

Map for Wanderlust 2018

This is my first exercise for Wanderlust 2018, following a lesson by Jamie Avery about drawing paths and roads. My interest was caught by an old map I found in a book of the town where I live. The map of Reading  by John Speed, dated 1610, shows the town centre, the shape of the roads are unchanged today. I liked the way he drew the buildings and I copied it using pen and ink and watercolour pencils.
